Camellia, silver and pearls 2

oil on linen on board, 12 x 15 inches

Another  underpainting, interrupted by a greater desire to visit family in Melbourne to honour birthdays, wisdom parents, and siblings who have produced amazing families full of prospect and hope.
Don't think this study will ever get completed as the blooms did not wait.
Makes me realise more acutely that flower studies are a study of transience.
I read a poem some time ago, translated from the early Japanese, that told of an aged poet's realisation that he could, in all reality, expect to see only12 more Cherry Seasons in his life. When I look each spring at the rush of transient beauty I gasp. How to capture that spirit and 'force in the green fuse' in paint, even in the smallest way, and to do so in 12 short springs?
